Stacey Bishop – The youngest ever Association for Project Management Chartered Project Professional!

Congratulations to Stacey Bishop, a project manager with Babcock International in Devonport, who at 24 years old is the youngest person in the world to be awarded the Association for Project Management (APM) Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status!

Receiving ChPP status is a professional benchmark that demonstrates a defined level of technical knowledge, professional practice and behaviour. It is seen as the ‘gold standard’ for project management worldwide, marking the holder’s competent leadership and an ability to successfully manage highly complex projects, programmes and portfolios.

Stacey already has a recognised technical knowledge and professional practice which enabled her to apply for ChPP status. She was able to demonstrate her knowledge and experience to the APM with work she had carried out on the Ground Based Air Defence, and Submarine Main Controls projects at Babcock. Stacey also completed four separate exams, focussing on different aspects of the project profession and an hour long panel interview, all of which she passed with flying colours to be awarded Chartered Status.

Stacey said ‘I am absolutely delighted to be awarded Chartership status from the Association for Project Management, it is great to be recognised for my experience and technical knowledge to such a high standard. To be the youngest is a particularly stand-out achievement for me as a young female in a male dominated industry. I hope this will inspire other young people to push themselves and prove they have what it takes if they are doubted because of their age and/or gender. Experience should not be about time-served in a particular role or company, but the range of work you have conducted and the standard of work you produce; this is echoed in this accomplishment.’

With the technical qualification and Chartered status under her belt, Stacey is now managing three concurrent submarine projects for Babcock in Plymouth.
