I am Chloe Irvine, currently completing the first year of a Higher Level Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.
My apprentice trade, why I chose it and why I chose Babcock:
The reason I chose this apprenticeship with Babcock was because I wanted to work within the marine sector and I felt being involved in the marine engineering that Babcock undertake would be truly inspiring. Also that I would have the opportunity to learn and develop a vast array of knowledge and understanding of this sector within Babcock.
My typical day:
Over the year, alongside college I have completed various tasks in the workshop, which has included using a variety of hand tools and equipment such as the column drill and the bandsaw. It has also involved disassembling and reassembling components such as pumps and valves. Additionally, I have completed a variety of research tasks, which has helped develop my knowledge further.
My favourite part of the job:
I am thoroughly enjoying learning new skills and gaining new knowledge within mechanical engineering and I am looking forward to applying these in the future throughout my career.
Most challenging thing I’ve ever done to date:
Undertaking this apprenticeship meant that I was completely changing my career. This decision was initially daunting as well as exciting but I am pleased that I decided to take my career in this new direction.
