Babcock celebrates double award win at the Maritime UK Awards

Babcock International, the Aerospace and Defence company, is celebrating a double win at the Maritime UK Awards 2020. Senior Naval Architect, Eirini Trivyza (pictured right) won Maritime Professional of the Year and Babcock’s LGE team took home the Clean Innovator Award, highlighting the dedication and success of our people and our game-changing products.

The virtual awards ceremony, hosted in Plymouth, celebrated a thriving sector worth £46 billion to the UK economy. It allowed Maritime UK an opportunity to shine the spotlight on careers and diversity, engineering, trade and innovation, as well as all of the people across the country who make this possible.

Celebrating her win as Maritime Professional of the Year, Eirini said: “I’m overwhelmed! It is fantastic to be nominated alongside such great candidates and I’m delighted to win. Through my work at Babcock and UKNEST, I’m really excited to engage and enthuse the next generation of engineers as well as taking on some truly exciting projects. I’ve used my platform to share my story and am proud to help inspire future industry talent.”

Babcock’s LGE team was named Clean Energy Innovator winner for its exciting ecoSMRT® reliquefaction technology for LNG ships. Providing an environmentally focussed technology, ecoSMRT® is helping global customers decrease harmful emissions.

Graeme McKinlay of the Babcock LGE team said: “We are committed to providing innovative solutions, which lower the environmental footprint of our customers’ vessels, and ecoSMRT® is a fundamental part of this strategy.

“Our teams based in Scotland and South Korea have collaborated tirelessly to make our products a success and we are delighted that the positive impact we have made has been recognised as the Clean Maritime Innovator award winner. We will continue to push the boundaries and make environmental responsibility a reality.”

Derek Jones, Babcock Marine’s Chief Executive, supported: “Our people are our strength at Babcock, and seeing them recognised by Maritime UK for a double win is testament to their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm. I am so proud of the ways in which Eirini has led by example, dedicating herself to a tremendous work programme of critical customer projects whilst promoting STEM through Babcock and UKNEST. She is a true leader inspiring the next generation.

“Similarly, our LGE team’s Clean Energy Innovator award highlights the bold ways in which we are bringing our engineering knowledge and innovation to bear to meet our customers’ requirements. Collaborating closely between Scotland and South Korea, our LGE team provides innovative, environmentally-focussed solutions, which lower the environmental footprint of our customers’ vessels. This is a key focus as we think about our environment social governance (ESG) and sustainability agenda within Babcock. Congratulations to everyone involved for their great work and all of the nominees.”

Babcock is already looking forward to the 2021 Maritime UK Awards, which will be hosted in Glasgow.
