Electrification and Power
The majority of our electrification and power works are being delivered through the ABC Electrification joint venture which was formed between Alstom, Babcock and Costain to support Network Rail’s £9.4bn investment in electrifying the UK’s rail network.
ABC Electrification combines design, engineering and delivery expertise across all electrification activities and can be trusted with the most complex, demanding schemes.
In December 2012, ABC Electrification began delivering its first electrification contract for Network Rail, the third phase of the West Coast Power Supply Upgrade (PSU). The works in North West England will enable more frequent services and longer trains on the West Coast Mainline.
In early 2014, ABC Electrification was delighted to be awarded two of Network Rail’s National Electrification Programme (NEP) framework contracts for London North Western (South) and Western and Wales. These contract awards, estimated to be valued at £900 million, serve to reinforce ABC’s reputation as a key player in the rail electrification market and are being delivered with the support of Swietelsky Babcock Rail’s pioneering innovative high output piling train and Alstom’s wiring train.
Costain was also awarded part of an alliance contract for Network Rail to develop the overhead line equipment works scope, programme and target prices for the £650m Edinburgh – Glasgow Improvement Project (EGIP) and ABC Electrification is the delivery partner. In addition, Morgan Sindall was awarded the track works for the EGIP project and Babcock is a delivery partner.
Babcock offers a full scope of electrification and power sevices from one off small projects to multi-million pound projects varying from simple cable repairs to the design, installation and commissioning of 25kv feeder stations. Services include:
- Overhead Line Survey, Design and Construction
