Babcock is one of the UK’s largest training providers offering a range of workforce development solutions and supporting over 20,000 learners on apprenticeship programmes every year. We employ over 1,000 teaching, learning and assessment professionals and support staff across the UK who are ready to assist with your training and development needs.

You do need to be employed while doing an apprenticeship as it’s a work-based training programme where you learn on-the-job. If you are not currently employed, we can match you to suitable vacancies. Employers recognise their effectiveness at increasing productivity, improving business performance and ensuring a committed and competent workforce.

Employers also recognise that advanced and higher apprenticeships offer a great route to developing their workforce and supporting their leaders of the future.

At Babcock we work with thousands of employers who place real value on their apprentices and most of our employer partners pay newly recruited apprentices more than the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage. If you are a new apprentice, the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage is £3.90 per hour if you are under 19 (or over 19 and in your first year of apprenticeship learning). In terms of other employer benefits such as holiday entitlement, all apprentices are eligible for the same benefits as other employees. The level of apprenticeship you take really depends on your job role. The higher level of skill or management responsibility required for your job role, the higher level of apprenticeship you can take.

At your initial meeting your Babcock Recruitment Advisor will explain all the options and work with you to identify the right qualification and level of study for you.

Apprenticeships allow you to progress in your chosen career, so once you complete your Level 2 apprenticeship you may move on to an advanced and/or higher apprenticeship as your career progresses. In some cases you can study towards a second Level 2 apprenticeship – for example, if you change your career path and start working in a new sector.

This depends on whether you already hold English and maths qualifications and which apprenticeship you are working towards. If you already hold certain qualifications in English and/or maths then you will not be required to complete the qualifications.

For those that are required to complete English and maths qualifications, at Babcock we don’t use classrooms to deliver these subjects – instead we will work with you individually and your Babcock Regional Trainer will give you all the guidance and support you need to develop these skills.

A technical certificate qualification focuses on the knowledge element of the apprenticeship. There are many different technical certificates and each one focuses on the knowledge element of your specific job role. In simple terms, the diploma element of your apprenticeship will teach you the practical skills you need to succeed in your job, and your technical certificate will teach you the theory behind these practical skills. In a small minority of cases, the technical certificate is combined into the main diploma qualification and is not a separate qualification.

Yes, Babcock offers lots of additional support to apprentices with additional learning needs. Your Babcock Recruitment Advisor and Babcock Regional Trainer will discuss the range of additional support we can provide with you at the start, or at any point throughout your programme.

No – Babcock apprenticeships are available all year round. We offer a continuous programme of recruitment for new apprentices and for individuals who are already in employment.

You will receive your certificates and have the opportunity to explore further development with your Babcock Regional Trainer and employer. Babcock holds Matrix accreditation, which means we are able to provide you with high quality information, advice and guidance about the range of options that are available to you.
