Are you looking to earn a competitive salary whilst gaining valuable work experience and learning a trade? If so, our 3 year level 3 NVQ Electrotechnical apprenticeship is for you.
As part of your apprenticeship you will work within Information Systems which forms part of the Mission Systems business area for Defence Systems Technology (DST). DST is a business unit within the Babcock Marine Sector. Information Systems is primarily based in Ashchurch, Gloucestershire but as part of the apprenticeship you may be required to work UK wide intermittently.
Owing to the security requirements for this role if successful you will be required to obtain enhanced security clearance, meeting National Security Vetting Standards, prior to starting work. This process can take up to a year to complete and the offer of employment will be dependent upon obtaining the required level of clearance. As such, it is anticipated successful applicants will commence work in September 2020.
As part of your apprenticeship you will learn all aspects of electrical installation works in office and industrial environments whilst studying towards your qualification. The training will be delivered on the job with assessors from Gloucester College assessing your progress every six to eight weeks.
On gaining your security clearance you will be deployed as part on the Installation team. On a typical day your day to day duties will include:
- Electrical Infrastructure
- LV Power installation
- Data Centre Installations
- Portable Appliance Testing
- Assisting with Fixed Installation Testing
- Antenna builds
In addition to gaining college qualifications you will also receive the following additional Training:
- IOSH Safety Training
- Competency training in the use mechanical plant
- Tower Rescue (Optional)
- Advanced climber (Optional)
Throughout the programme you will be supported by a mentor who is a senior manager in the Information Systems team. Your mentor will work alongside your line manager who will be on hand to offer support and career guidance throughout your apprenticeship.
To apply you will need GCSEs at grade A* – C (9 – 4) in Maths, English and a Science-based subject. You will also need to be studying towards or have achieved a level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation by September 2020.
