Delivering Excellence in Training

Many of the Babcock workforce have served in the Armed Forces and bring an understanding of defence specific training requirements. Other members of the workforce have a breadth of industry experience, allowing Babcock to explore new technologies, best practice ideas and solutions that can be applied to a military training environment.

All training delivered by Babcock complies with the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT). To keep up-to-date with modern training techniques, Babcock works with STEM education establishments to share ideas and assess against each other.

DSEME was granted the Defence Train the Trainer Franchise licence, allowing military and Babcock trainers to develop their skills in-house with the assistance of a dedicated Trainer Training Development (T2D) team with ongoing support, coaching and mentoring.

Virtual Learning Innovation

Babcock is leading the way with the development of media, graphics and virtual learning to support trainers and students enabling them to access course material before, during, and after their formal training.

Advances in virtual learning allowed Babcock to collaborate with the Royal Navy to create a virtual reality trainer to enhance marine engineering diagnostic competency. This allows students interaction with multiple systems to determine the root cause of faults. It is the first time this technology has been used by marine engineers in the Royal Navy.

GFE Relocation

Babcock undertook the relocation of DSEME at Bordon and Arborfield to Lyneham. This involved the move of over 220,000 items and 19,000 assets with 662 articulated vehicles covering a distance of 54,500 miles and took 19 weeks to complete. This project was completed significantly below budget with a return of £6 million in savings to the customer.
