Marine Systems Support Partner

Ensuring our customers achieve operational success

We provide agile, tailored and scalable support solutions that enable our customers to achieve operational success wherever they need it.

As the Marine Systems Support Partner (MSSP) for the Type 45 Destroyers and Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carriers, Babcock provides a range of complex warship support services to the UK Ministry of Defence.

Drawing on our experience in generating and sustaining naval ships on global operations, we deliver an agile support package to these newly in-service frigates. MSSP encompasses engineering assistance, design configuration control, supply chain and inventory management.

With Defence, Equipment & Support’s (DE&S) Common Support Model, the foundation for all future support to complex warships, the MSSP support package reflects the evolving, maturing, support and management strategy for the future surface fleet.

Delivering the full range of warship support

With the support of our key partners, we are the Systems Technical Authority for the platform and propulsion systems on both the Type 45 Destroyers and Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carriers.

We directly engage with our Royal Navy customer at the Waterfront with technical and inventory support when they are not at sea, as well as manage the technical configuration of the systems, overcome obsolescence issues and work with the equipment suppliers to develop and manage system upgrades.

MSSP includes all power and propulsion systems, such as gas turbines, diesel engines, electrical distribution and platform management systems. It also encompasses a variety of on-board systems, including air conditioning, filtration, waste management, valves and pumps, fire-fighting equipment, highly mechanised equipment, lifts, cranes and refuel-at-sea capabilities.

We also supply spares and in-service support to mitigate the risks to maritime equipment availability arising from routine maintenance and unforeseen in-service failures. This includes providing remote technical advice and expediting spares delivery to deployed ships, through to deploying personnel worldwide when physical support is needed.

Drawing on our strong existing relationship with the Royal Navy and our role in the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, Babcock is perfectly placed to deliver a safe, cost effective and flexible solution that puts the maintainer at the heart of in-service support and equipment provision.

Dedicated team and tailored facilities

We have created a bespoke team, drawn from the best in industry, to deliver MSSP located across offices in Bristol and Portsmouth. Our solution is delivered through a collaborative approach between industry partners, DE&S, DE&S suppliers, UK Royal Navy and Original Equipment Manufacturers, as well as the wider supply chain.

This innovative team solution will ensure the sustainability of the support solution to collectively ensure the applicable systems and equipment availability is maintained, and improved, through-life.

We work closely with our customers to provide options for the improvement and sustainment of system and equipment availability, enabling Navy Command to prioritise their funding to meet their capability needs. We have delivered significant improvements to systems safety, performance, availability and supportability across our scope. We’ve significantly invested in the creation of a dedicated Equipment Management Operations Centre (EMOC) at our Marine facilities in Bristol. The centre enables us to deliver an impressive combination of suitably qualified experts, tailored processes and refined software solutions which improve material planning.
