Hawk Contract

Supporting the pilots of tomorrow

In our 11-year agreement with BAE Systems, we continue to support the Royal Air Force (RAF)’s fleet of 28 Hawk T2 jets at RAF Valley, Anglesey in North Wales.

Providing maintenance and fast jet training for trainee pilots as part of the UK Military Training System (UKMFTS), our teams ensure the output of pilots who then go on to operate Typhoon and F-35 aircraft.

The Hawk contract covers all Hawk T2 airframe support elements, working to ensure the Hawk aircraft continue as global ambassadors for the UK.

As part of the same contract, we also deliver both forward and depth maintenance to the RAF’s Red Arrows display team. Recently the team delivered three Depth Aircraft in March to support Spring Hawk allowing them to continue to impress the world with their amazing acrobatic displays.

Through new ways of working, and by harnessing the use of technology, we drive savings that are then reinvested into the RAF’s training capability.

Training the next generating of engineering talent

This contract has created many opportunities throughout the region, securing hundreds of jobs in North Wales, including aeronautical apprenticeships. Recognising the shortage of this particular skillset, apprenticeships such as this one at RAF Valley plays a key role in training the next generation of engineers with hands-on experience and training.

Delivering excellence, together

Babcock and BAE Systems work together to excel in the maintenance of the fleet – a collaborative approach that has proven successful in the Hawk contract.

“A perfect example of Babcock and BAE Systems working together is our work on Critical Change Project Management (CCPM) that has seen our teams introduce a real transformation into our maintenance operations planning. We are seeing the benefits of improved resilience and confidence of delivery, with aircraft leaving depth maintenance quicker and getting where they are needed.”  Chris Holt, Hawk Delivery Director for BAE systems.
