What you could be working on
Since its inception in the 1900s, the historic dockyard at Rosyth has played a major role in the repair and maintenance of Royal Navy ships and submarines. In 1997, it became the first privatised naval dockyard in Britain, and since then it has grown to become one of our largest sites – and the focal point for some of our most ambitious and cutting-edge work.
Working at our Rosyth facility offers a range of opportunities. Here are some of the programmes you’ll encounter on-site.
Type 31 frigate building programme
We’re engineering, manufacturing and assembling the next generation of Royal Navy warships – the Type 31 general purpose frigates, which have been designed to meet the challenges of the future maritime environment. We are recruiting for engineers, skilled tradespeople and designers to help us continue to deliver on our current and future programmes.
Submarine Dismantling Project
Rosyth is home to seven retired Royal Navy submarines, including HMS Swiftsure, which will be the first decommissioned UK nuclear-powered submarine to be fully dismantled, recycled and disposed of. We’re also working with the Defence Nuclear Enterprise to identify ways that our docking facility can be used to support the new HMS Dreadnought submarine – work that is at the forefront of new solutions in the exciting and growing world of nuclear engineering.
Our Liquid Gas Equipment business
Rosyth is home to our Liquid Gas Equipment (LGE) business, which delivers world-leading, environmentally focussed and engineering-led cargo handling and fuel gas solutions to shipyards and shipowners in the commercial marine industry. Working here is all about energy. The energy we help our customers process, handle and store; and the energy you’ll bring in delivering innovative solutions to real world problems.
Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers
Having delivered detailed design and whole ship assembly of the Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carriers, we now provide their dry dock maintenance. Joining our team of round 300 people, you’ll help to provide facilities for any contingency dockings on these spectacular warships.
Supporting Ukraine
We were awarded a three-year contract to support and maintain two mine countermeasure vessels for the Navy of Ukraine following their transfer from the UK Royal Navy. We also offer support at reach to the Navy of Ukraine, helping to equip the crew with real-time solutions to any problems they encounter.
Missile tube assembly
At Rosyth, we deliver the complex and highly specialised manufacturing of ballistic missile tube assemblies. Through £50m of investment in our people and facilities, we’ve created a unique
world-class missile tube factory, where we produce missile tubes to exacting tolerances. Apply your skills and expertise in support of the UK’s Continuous At Sea Deterrent.
Relocating to Fife
As well as the meaningful and fulfilling work on-site, there are lots of great reasons for making Rosyth your new home.
We’re based in the historic Scottish county of Fife, the third largest local authority in Scotland and home to over 360,000 people. Most of our team live close by, with the majority situated in the town of Rosyth or in Dunfermline, which was recently named the best city in the UK for quality of life due to its low house prices, and its culture and amenities.
Fife itself has been voted the ‘No 1 outdoor destination’ by Scottish Natural Heritage for the last eight years – with 4,961 listed buildings, 48 conservation areas and 117 miles of coastline, it’s a place full of history and natural beauty.
If you’re a sports fan, then there is plenty for you to do. There are 50 golf courses across the region, including the world-famous St Andrews, the home of golf and its world governing body, The R&A. It also has the only FIA-graded motorsport venue in Scotland, Knockhill Racing Circuit, with Cowdenbeath Racewall and Lochgelly Raceway also easily accessible. Dunfermline Athletic is the closest Scottish football league team, with Raith Rovers further along the coast at Kirkcaldy.
There are excellent regional transport links. Rosyth is just a stone’s throw from the Forth Bridge that leads south to Edinburgh across the Firth of Forth. Road and rail links can see you quickly travel to Stirling, Falkirk and Glasgow in the west, or Perth and Dundee in the north. The closest airport is Edinburgh, which is less than a 40-minute car journey away.
