What you could be working on
Whether you’re starting out or bringing years of experience, careers at Clyde offer the chance to work on cutting-edge defence programmes, including the Vanguard and Astute-class submarines, and soon the Dreadnought-class. Our teams also maintain mine countermeasure vessels, visiting warships, and provide full facilities management across the base.
Submarine support and nuclear expertise
We deliver operational maintenance, upgrades and repairs to support Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute Class nuclear submarines based in Scotland. Working closely with a number of agencies and partners, including the MOD, Submarine Delivery Agency, Defence Equipment and Support, commercial partners and ship’s staff, we deliver significant programmes of work that are highly complex and critical.
Naval base and facilities management
To keep the naval base running safely and efficiently, our teams provide a comprehensive facilities management service that covers building management, housekeeping and grounds maintenance, berthing and radioactive waste processing. This involves substantial efficiency and service improvements, including infrastructure/estate support, fleet time engineering, facilities management, waterfront services, logistics and transport.
Relocating to the West of Scotland
Relocating to the West of Scotland offers more than just a career move – it’s an opportunity to embrace a lifestyle shaped by natural beauty, strong communities and meaningful work. The naval base is located near Helensburgh, a charming coastal town on the Firth of Clyde, just under an hour from Glasgow. This region blends the tranquillity of lochs and hills with the convenience of urban access, making it an ideal place to settle.
The surrounding environment is a major draw. Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is just a short drive away, offering endless opportunities for hiking, cycling, kayaking and wildlife watching. The waterfront in Helensburgh is perfect for scenic walks and relaxation, while cultural landmarks like the Hill House add depth to the area’s heritage.
Living in this part of Scotland means enjoying a slower pace without sacrificing connectivity. There’s regular trains link Helensburgh to Glasgow and beyond, including sleeper services to London. Whether you’re drawn by the career opportunities or the lifestyle, the West of Scotland offers many reasons to make the move.
