General Logistics Vehicle
Delivering the latest military and security force vehicle
The General Logistics Vehicle (GLV) is Babcock’s proposed solution for the British Army’s Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV) competition, launched to replace the outgoing Land Rover fleet.
Our series of General Logistics Vehicles (GLV) is able to fulfil a multitude of tasks for militaries across the world.
The GLV series is based upon the Toyota Land Cruiser, but with significant build enhancements. It builds upon the characteristics, performance, and core architecture of the iconic military Land Rover, whilst applying our engineering expertise and the latest technology.
What makes the GLV such a compelling choice?
Built on a proven platform
Our GLV variants for LMV programme are based on the iconic Toyota Land Cruiser LC70 – a globally respected off-road vehicle from the world’s largest automotive manufacturer, renowned for operating in some of the planet’s toughest environments.
Engineered in the UK
Developed by Babcock in the automotive heartland of the West Midlands, the GLV draws on decades of expertise in designing, customising and delivering vehicles for the UK’s armed forces, government agencies and emergency services.
Supporting British industry
Backed by a comprehensive UK supply chain, we’re working with innovative automotive SMEs across the country on our solution – sustaining skilled jobs and contributing to the UK’s defence dividend.
Underpinned by proven support
As a strategic support partner to the British Army, Babcock maintains more than 30,000 military platforms – from quad bikes to Challenger 2 tanks – ensuring they remain mission ready.
The result is a capable, safe and practical vehicle designed to meet the Army’s future mobility requirements.

The GLV series offers a common vehicle base with various role modules to meet the needs of different missions in evolving theatres of operation.
Optimum functionality is provided through value-engineered specifications that prioritise operational effect whilst maintaining passenger comfort and ease of operation.
Designed to enable the integration of various signals and communication technologies, the GLV is able to perform a key role within an integrated C4ISTAR eco-system. The payload also allows for the integration of self-defence counterstrike capability to intercept missiles and unmanned aerial threats without compromising on mobility.
Each variant of the GLV is future-proofed against payload growth and capability improvements through the ability to integrate:
- Gross vehicle weight uplift packages
- 6×6 conversions
- Wheelbase and chassis extensions
- Zonal armour kit installations
- High output power systems upgrades
We’re engineering a GLV variant for every mission; alongside our long wheelbase GLV, we now offer a smaller medium wheelbase variant. The reduced chassis length on the medium wheelbase enables greater off-road mobility to allow comfortable orientation through unpredictable terrains, in all weathers. At just 12.6 meters, the turning circle of the GLV medium wheelbase is the tightest available when compared with other military and security vehicles in its class. The medium wheelbase has four individual crew seats and storage capacity for a four-person team to comfortably stow what is required for a 72-hour patrol, making it the perfect command and control vehicle or small-team patrol vehicle.
Our through-life capability management approach could enable the development of hybrid, electric vehicle and hydrogen powertrain solutions within the GLV series, including retrofit if required in the future.
The GLV is an effective, reliable, and affordable all-terrain vehicle that will enable militaries and security forces to operate larger multi-role fleets.
We recognise the need to balance rising costs with a pressing requirement for greater and more robust defence and security.
Through our significant and unique experience with equipment support and asset management, we ensure that critical vehicles are readily available, affordable and future proofed, and that the through-life costs of the GLV series are kept to a minimum.
Every variant of the GLV is a resilient workhorse built around the proven Toyota Land Cruiser LC70 vehicle which has been used by militaries and aid agencies all around the world.
End user comfort, safety, manoeuvrability, and protection has been foremost in the design and production of the GLV. The ergonomically designed cabin accommodates the widest range of driver dimensions compared to other utility vehicles in the market with no loss to urban or off-road mobility.
The layout and familiarity to the Land Rover will be evident for technicians and users alike due to the:
- Beam axle suspended front engine
- Ladder frame chassis with separate body
- Familiar layout and componentry
While our new GLV has the look and feel of the historic Land Rover, the design features utilise our significant expertise and the latest technology, ensuring militaries across the world are equipped and mission-ready whenever and wherever needed.
